Why Vision Boards Don't Work (and what you're missing)
Feelings Are More Powerful Than Thoughts
Let’s talk about why your vision board isn’t working and the one tweak you need to start manifesting what you want — with or without the board.
Now, I’ve spent the last three years buried in over 100 esoteric books, spent thousands of dollars on courses, and even attended fancy retreats (yes, including Abraham Hicks, Joe Dispenza, and Steven Greer — who’s into aliens, but we’ll save that for another day).
I’m here to save you time, money, and maybe even a little sanity by connecting the dots for you.
Ready? Let’s dive in.
The Vision Board Craze
So, you heard about vision boards and sprinted to your local Michaels like a crafting warrior. But let me ask you:
Are you staring at it 10 times a day before sunset?
Reciting mantras like, “I drive a Lamborghini” (cue the song Gettin’ Jiggy Wit it by Will Smith)?
Done the secret mudra, spun around five times, and blown magical dust at it?
Perfect! Your manifestation is right around the corner! Except… no. That’s not how this works.
Neville Goddard and the Secret Sauce
My good ol’ (and totally real) friend Neville Goddard — who, fun fact, passed away in 1972 before I was even born — said it best: “Feeling is the secret.”
And yes, some of my best friends are imaginary (don’t try to convince me otherwise — Mom!)
The truth is, I’ve been manifesting jobs, money, travel — without a vision board. Want to know how? It’s all about feeling like you’ve already got it.
Yep, no mystical chants needed.
Just raw belief that it’s already yours.
Your heart is the true manifestation engine here, not your brain. Science backs this up — our hearts are electromagnetic beasts.
Science Time: Your Heart is an Electromagnetic Engine
The HeartMath Institute discovered that our heart’s electric field can extend 6–9 feet around us.
Ever walked into a room and just felt drawn to someone — or, let’s be real, had the urge to run away from someone across the room?
That’s your electric field at work, folks.
We’re basically walking Wi-Fi routers.
Now, here’s the cool part:
Your body contains 37.5 trillion cells. Each one has tiny millivolts of electricity. Do the math (37.5 trillion × 70 mV) — wild, right?
And those nerve cells? They send impulses at 268 miles per hour. You, my friend, are a literal powerhouse.
Maybe that scene from The Matrix where humans were used as batteries wasn’t so unrealistic after all… No, that’s dark — let’s stick with the light!
And hey, just to blow your mind a little more: it only takes 120 volts to toast a piece of bread. Let that sink in.
But How Do You Manifest?
Here’s the kicker: You channel that internal electricity toward what you want by feeling it.
Vision boards are great for stimulating the mind, but staring at a bunch of magazine cutouts won’t cut it. Thinking about something alone doesn’t make it happen.
You have to feel like you already have it. That car, that partner, that spicy samosa — you’ve gotta feel it in your bones, like it’s already parked in your driveway or sitting on your plate.
We’re all energy. Atoms? They’re 98% empty space, which means most of what we think is solid… isn’t. Life’s an energy game, people.
What you are literally doing by getting in to a space of knowing you have it is getting your personal energy to a place that matches what you desire. It can not find you if you are not an energetic match.
Feeling it does not mean needing or wanting it — needing or wanting something suggests you don’t have it — it keeps a separation.
Careful with this as it’s tricky. The feeling needs to be gratitude and happiness that you already have it and release.
Then give reality time to catch up.
As Jafar said to his parrot in the movie Aladdin, “Patience, Iago, patience.”
Stay with this — don’t fall into disbelief.
Here’s Where Vision Boards Actually Help
Now, don’t go burning your vision board just yet. They do serve a purpose — as long as you’re engaging with them the right way.
The best time to give your vision board some love is right when you wake up or just before bed.
Why? These are the golden hours when your brain is in theta state (aka hypnosis mode), and your subconscious is wide open to suggestion.
Go to sleep feeling like you already have your dream life, and your subconscious will work all night to make it happen — because, in case you didn’t know, the subconscious never sleeps.
Nope it’s always on taking in billions of bits of data and storing it for you.
Another hot tip — your feelings direct your subconscious on how to store information. The more emotion you attach to a thought or event, the more your subconscious will bring it to the surface and reinforce it.
So, try not to link strong emotions to disempowering thoughts or events. I know that’s tough, but that’s where the real work lies in creating your own reality.
Let’s Talk About Action
One big myth the mainstream spiritual teachers often push is that you don’t have to do anything — that you can just think your way into riches.
Spoiler alert: you have to take action.
But don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be soul-crushing, exhausting action.
The kind of action you’ll take when you’re tuned into the right energy will feel aligned and effortless.
Think of it like this: You want to win the lottery, but you still need to buy the ticket. The action is in buying the ticket. The universe isn’t going to hand you that check if you don’t show up for it.
And before you start dreaming of lottery wins, here’s a reality check: Most people can’t get themselves to the energetic state of believing they’ve already won. If you can’t get to that feeling, it’s not coming. So don’t rush off to your local lotto store quite yet — Patience, Iago, patience.
Start Small, Build Big
Here’s my advice: Start small. Manifest things you can easily believe are possible for you.
Once you’ve nailed the smaller stuff, you’ll build confidence in the process, and then — my friend — the world is your oyster.
The Brain Is Processing A Lot More Than You Realize
Just so you know, the human brain processes 11 million bits of information per second, but only about 50 bits reach conscious awareness.
Yeah, your brain is working way harder than you give it credit for. Over the course of a minute, that’s about 660 million bits processed, but only 3,000 bits actually make it to your conscious mind.
The rest? It’s all happening automatically — keeping you breathing, regulating your body, filtering out useless information.
Your conscious mind is just a small slice of the action.
The subconscious mind is where it’s at and emotions, feelings, and imagination are a direct link to it.
My friend Neville knew what he was talking about.
Wrapping It Up
So, here’s the deal: Vision boards aren’t magical on their own. You need to feel what it’s like to already have what you want.
Engage with that vision board when your brain is in the right state (when you wake up and right before bed), take aligned action, and trust the process.
Remember: Life is all about energy. Start tuning into the frequency of the things you desire, and watch how the universe works with you. Oh, and don’t forget to actually enjoy the ride while you’re at it.
Great article. Yes, it’s all about “feeling” and taking on that kind of attitude. Thank you for sharing.
