You are not happy because you are not truly free.
If a thought keeps circling in your mind, you are caught in it—you are not free.
If you are regretting the past or anxious about the future, you are not free.
Your mind drifts instead of witnessing the endless beauty that exists right here, right now.
You don’t see the light in a child’s smile.
You don’t hear the waves meeting the shore.
You don’t feel the strength in your own body as you move.
You’re missing the very things that can nourish and heal you—things that are only available in the present moment.
You are not alone. I’ve been there. I still fall into it.
But here’s something I’ve learned: happiness isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you claim.
Telling yourself you’ll be happy once you achieve that goal? You won’t.
Another goal will take its place.
Telling yourself you’ll be happy once your partner speaks to you with more gentleness? You won’t.
You’ll want something else on top of that.
The mind is always chasing. Always wanting.
But when you sit quietly with yourself, you realize happiness isn’t something you have to chase.
It’s already here.
It’s a choice.
I can choose to fret about the past that I cannot change.
I can choose to stress about the future that I cannot control.
Or I can choose to open my eyes to what’s in front of me.
To observe reality, not torment myself with my imagination.
And here’s something you can do today to start breaking the habit of postponing your happiness:
Walk mindfully.
Walk in a way that makes every step nourishing.
Walk in a way that reminds you that you can walk.
Walk with purpose, even if you’re just crossing the room.
Walk with gratitude, whether it’s across an office, a street, or a city.
Master the art of mindful walking, and you’ll return to the here and now.
You will make yourself available to life.
And life, in return, will make itself available to you.
Then you will be free.
Try it today and see how your day changes.
All the best my friend,
Sirah
