“Have you heard of Reiki?” my aunt asked.
“I feel like I’ve heard the word, but I don’t really know what it is.”
“Maybe look into it,” she said, almost knowingly. “It might line up with your path.”
I wasn’t sure what she meant, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Then I realized—I had heard of Reiki. Years ago, a mom at my kids’ preschool told me she was a Reiki practitioner. I asked her what that meant, and she said, “I move energy in people’s bodies.”
I’m pretty sure my face was animated and puzzled (it happens… okay, a lot), because she quickly dropped the subject and moved on.
Fast forward 10 years—I’m now a certified Reiki Master.
How did this happen?
I followed my curiosity and it took me on what I have found to be a usual path these past few years:
skepticism → synchronicities → teachers appearing → immersive experience → a changed mind
A couple days after talking to my aunt I was in my favorite daytime hangout—the library.
Voila, this book falls out of the shelf titled “What is Reiki?”
I looked around, expecting to see someone who’d knocked it off. The aisle was empty.
I thought okay universe so you’re clearly trying to get my attention, fine, I’ll take the bait.
That book was the start. Curiosity led to videos, online courses, and, finally, the desire to learn Reiki for myself—so I could offer it to others.
I still remember my first Reiki class.
There were about 15 of us, from all walks of life. Within hours, I felt something intense, like energy was swirling in the room. I don’t get headaches, but one hit me like a wall. I couldn’t ignore it—there was something there.
Then came the hands-on practice.
We held small quartz crystals between our fingers as we practiced moving energy with our hands, following specific motions and Reiki symbols with mental focus.
Suddenly, the crystal started vibrating.
The rate of vibration changed as I moved my hands over different areas of my partner’s body.
“What?! This is crazy. It actually works,” I thought.
This was the first of many compelling moments during my training.
The final step was the attunement—a sacred process where an Attunement Reiki Master opens your energy channels and aligns you with the universal life force energy.
Sitting with my eyes closed, palms outstretched, I felt my instructor’s fingers press the center of my palm.
It felt like a small, hot coal had touched me.
“What?! This is crazy. It actually works,” I thought again.
I started this journey as a skeptic, but feeling the vibrating crystal, the warmth of attunement, and the unmistakable shifts in energy taught me something undeniable: Reiki works.
My continued work with Reiki has deepened both my practice and my understanding of its power. Each session, whether with myself or others, reveals new layers of healing and connection.
Reiki has become an integral part of how I approach well-being and support those seeking energetic alignment.
Reiki: In a Nutshell
Reiki is a versatile healing practice that supports physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
It’s particularly effective for everyday challenges, helping to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and promote relaxation. Many clients report relief from physical discomfort like headaches, chronic pain, or fatigue, often noticing a greater sense of balance and calm.
Reiki works by clearing blockages and stagnation in the body’s energy layers, raising your vibration to restore health and harmony.
During a session, you’ll lie down comfortably while the practitioner clears and aligns your energy centers using their hands. Crystals and aromatherapy can be included if you’re open to them.
You may feel temperature changes, emotional releases, or even drift into a deeply relaxed sleep. And if you don’t feel physical sensations, that’s perfectly normal—the energy is still working.
The effects often appear in subtle but meaningful ways, like feeling lighter, more grounded, and discovering unexpected bursts of energy or joy.
Reiki offers gentle, non-invasive healing, helping your body release what it’s ready to let go of and embrace wellness.
Can it be done at a distance?
Yes. There is a universal energy field that connects all of us.
This is why you think of an old friend, and suddenly they message you out of nowhere.
This is why a mother can feel that something might be wrong at distance from her child.
It’s the same field that makes distant Reiki healing possible.
We can tune into a specific person (with their permission) and offer the energetic healing into the field that connects to them.
Consider this, we once thought it impossible to send signals wirelessly.
The Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi, was considered crazy to think that signals could be sent through the air using electromagnetic waves.
Yet he shocked the world when he sent the first wireless signal across the Atlantic Ocean—over 2,000 miles—from England to Newfoundland.
You are currently reaping the rewards of his persistence reading this on your personal device.
There is much that is unseen in this world but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
A field beyond what we can see with our eyes connects us and we can send positive energy to each other through it.
If you’re curious about Reiki, I’d love to share more. Whether in person or at a distance, Reiki offers a powerful yet gentle way to support your well-being.

I have just started my own Reiki journey. I am still skeptical but as I practice daily it changes everything.
