Could god actually be an alien?
A higher dimensional or extraterrestrial being that’s orders of magnitude more technologically advanced than us, hence appears god-like?
This was a question I was determined to reflect more deeply on after my experience last month at the ECETI ranch in Washington. You can read about that here if you’re interested.
I was raised in an Abrahamic faith.
A faith that holds there is one almighty god.
He is all knowing, loving, and forgiving.
But he can also be punitive if you don’t believe and follow his revealed teachings.
As a young child I remember cringing when I heard the story of god commanding Abraham to sacrifice his son to prove his love for god. That command came to Abraham through a dream. He never saw god. He received a message he believed came from god.
In modern language, we might call that channeling.
I would think to myself, why would god ask Abraham to do something so violent to prove his love? And why does he need proof anyways? God should be confident in his greatness and not require a human to lift his ego. For doesn’t god already know what is in the heart of man? What is going on here?....
Abraham bound his son, placed him on the altar and took the knife to kill him.
Suddenly, god intervened saying Abraham had proved himself and therefore did not have to sacrifice his son. (Phew, I thought.)
He could instead sacrifice the ram that happened to be around the corner.
Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I have always felt a deep empathy for that particular ram.
Viscerally these accounts induced fear in my little body, not love.
If a human commanded another human to demonstrate their loyalty through a blood sacrifice we would have an entirely different opinion of both parties: the commander and the commanded would be viewed with hostility.
What’s with the hypocrisy?
My little mind refused to believe it.
I knew God was kind and loving and that meant he was not a hypocrite or a hitman.
There had to be another explanation.
In comes the explanation posing as a question: What if that wasn’t God speaking to Abraham?
Some might argue Abraham was suffering from mental illness.
I am not convinced.
I do believe he legitimately received a message.
As have countless other prophets and way showers in our history.
The question for me is: from whom?
Prophet Muhammad heard the angel Gabriel while sitting alone in a dark cave.
Moses received the Ten Commandments from a voice while on Mount Sinai.
Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician who had little formal training in mathematics yet made substantial contributions to the field by solving problems that were considered unsolvable. He was adamant that the Goddess Namagiri revealed the complex equations to him through his dreams.
We are in the modern age of channeling.
A simple YouTube search will give you countless hits.
There are many people hearing many voices.
Has God taken on multiple personalities?
Or are we confusing multiple entities for the one and only God?
I am voting for the latter.
The first channeling session I ever saw was Esther Hicks on YouTube, who brings in Abraham.
This was in 2021 and it scared the shit out of me!
Watching this person speak in a different way than their normal personality and say it was from higher dimensional beings was both confusing and creepy to me.
Today, in 2026, I watch different channelers all the time and I don’t flinch.
I had to undo the fear programming I was taught regarding the unseen or hidden.
It’s not about the method anymore.
It’s about the message.
I don’t believe every channeling account to be authentic.
I have learned to feel into it.
If it expands your heart and comes from the frequency of love, it’s closer to truth and from a benevolent being.
If it comes from the frequency of fear and ego, it’s not benevolent, and I won’t be taking it as truth.
Gods From the Sky
So let’s loop this back to earlier times.
Cultures all over the world have stories of gods or beings associated with the sky, heavens and stars.
The Hopi have ancient traditions connecting spiritual beings with the heavens and stars.
Indian Vedic texts describe gods traversing the heavens in celestial chariots and interacting with humans.
Ancient Mesopotamian texts describe gods associated with the heavens, sun, moon and stars, and even stories of humans being created to take over the work of the gods.
In one Aztec creation story, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca descend from the heavens to Earth.
Different continents.
Different civilizations.
Different gods.
Of course, none of this proves they were extraterrestrial beings.
But I think it raises one hell of a question:
What exactly were our ancestors interacting with?
god Is Not God
So here is where I have landed.
I think we may have confused gods with God.
What our ancestors called gods may have been extraterrestrial, interdimensional or otherwise non-human intelligences communicating with humans in the only ways humans at the time could understand.
A voice in a cave.
A voice on a mountain.
A being descending from the heavens.
A message received in a dream.
To a human living thousands of years ago, how would you even begin to describe an intelligence thousands or millions of years ahead of you?
You might call it god.
But that still leaves the bigger question.
Who created them?
Because I don’t believe an advanced extraterrestrial being is God any more than I believe a human being is God.
They would still exist inside the system.
God, to me, is something else entirely.
God is the intelligence behind the system.
The programmer.
And that is where things get really interesting.
Because when you start looking at the mathematical precision embedded throughout our universe, recurring patterns in nature, the Fibonacci sequence, the laws of physics and the strange fact that reality appears to operate according to remarkably consistent mathematical rules, the possibility of a programmer becomes difficult for me to ignore
But that’s another rabbit hole.
