How To Use Your Body’s Energy Systems to Create a Life by Design
Did you know you’re more than just biology? True story.
So I came across this word a couple years ago, “Chakra”
Cha-what?
Never heard of it.
Sounded like a karate move Bruce Lee might have performed in “Enter the Dragon”.
But my gut told me I was wrong.
Since I have a new found respect for my gut in recent years I decided to prove to my gut right.
Ahhh energy center. I was sort of close. No?
And wait, humans have known about these for 1000s of years—Why am I just hearing about this now?
Sheesh, western education system.
But hey, at least I know the Pythagorean theorem for all those daily right triangles I encounter
Okay back to the point.
Turns out our human bodies have more elements to them than was scribed in my Biology 12 textbook.
Chakras are an integral part of our system—one we need to take care of just like we do our teeth.
[if you don’t ever brush your teeth, you can stop reading now. None of this will make sense to you.]
Onward!
Electromagnetism
Okay, let’s start with the big picture—and no, it’s not a conspiracy theory (unless you want it to be):
You’re an electromagnetic being.
Living on an electromagnetic planet.
In an electromagnetic universe.
Energy is transferred through electric and magnetic fields.
When that energy flows freely, you’re basically a spiritual ninja—balanced, light, and thriving.
But if it’s blocked? You’re a clogged drain. And nobody likes being a clogged drain.
Your Body: A Human Battery
Fun fact: You’re basically a walking power plant.
Your nervous system? Electric.
Your heartbeat? Electric.
Your brain’s inner chatter at 2 a.m.? Yup, electric (and annoying).
Every cell in your body is like a tiny, high-tech battery.
Imagine a million little Duracells buzzing in you.
Even your eyes and ears are wired for electricity—turning light and sound into signals so your brain can go, “Oh hey, that’s a cat!”
Earth’s and Universe’s Electromagnetic Symphony
Earth isn’t just some big hunk of rock—it’s got its own electromagnetic field.
Think of it as the planet’s aura, shielding us from solar drama. And the universe? It’s an endless dance of stars, cosmic rays, and electromagnetic forces.
Basically, the whole cosmos is a galactic rave, and you’re right in the middle of it.
Earth has it’s own electromagnetic heartbeat more technically know as The Schumann Resonance. It typically resonates around 7.83 Hz but can fluctuate due to solar activity or lightning natural electromagnetic frequencies, created by the space between Earth's surface and the ionosphere.
Schumann resonance can influence human brainwaves and well-being, creating a subtle connection between us and the planet's energy field.
So if you’re ever feeling off, maybe Earth just needs a nap too.
Biofields and Chakras: Your Body’s WiFi Routers
Here’s where it gets wild. Your body? It has its own electromagnetic field (your biofield), and within it are chakras. Think of chakras as your internal WiFi routers:
When the signal is strong, life’s smooth.
When it’s “buffering,” you’re stressed, sluggish, or spiraling into existential dread.
The Origins of Chakras and the Hara/Dan Tien
Chakras have ancient street cred, coming from Indian spirituality (circa 1500 BCE). There dozens of chakras in our bodies but seven main ones require our regular attention for energetic health.
They run up your spine like an energetic ladder.
The Hara is like your inner CEO. It’s where emotions meet action, giving you the drive to chase your dreams—or at least get off the couch.
From ancient Chinese medicine and martial arts, the Hara or Dan Tien (meaning “elixir field” in Chinese) is considered the “center of gravity” and core energy reserve.
Located about two to three finger-widths below the navel, it’s the source of “qi,” or life energy, which powers everything from physical movement to mental clarity.
It has overlap over the solar and sacral chakra centers.
It’s a major focal point in zen, martial arts, and kung fu as a center of vital energy and true wisdom.
Basically, it’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi of your energy centers: wise, powerful, and ready to kick butt.
Understanding Your Hara: Your Will’s HQ
The Hara can be considered your Will as it is where emotions meet action. It’s a very powerful and magnetizing force that drives us toward what we desire (or avoid).
Here’s what it does:
• Ambition & Drive: Projects us out into the world, guiding goals and ambitions.
• Reality Attraction: Combines thinking and feeling, pulling us toward our intended outcomes.
• Magnetizing Energy: The Will draws experiences toward us based on what we desire or deny.
Pathways of Influence: 3 Brains of The Body
• Intuition flows into the Hara/Will.
• Imagination originates in the Head.
• Inspiration arises in the Heart.
These three energy spots provide intelligence, intuition, and power into our lives.
Strengthening Your Will & Energy Flow
Want a stronger Will? Time to build that “spiritual muscle.”
Just like any other muscle, this requires effort and repetition.
Do the hard stuff: Meditation, cold plunges, or even holding your tongue during a heated argument (fine, the last one is more for your relationship not your Hara). Basically indulging in a practice that makes you uncomfortable (not painful) trains the Will to develop self control and increase resilience.
Clear the gunk: Shame and guilt block your Will like emotional cholesterol. Confront your truths to free yourself.
Strong Will: Focused Will aligns heart and mind, guiding us toward our desires.
Blocked Will: Feeling frozen or unsure of direction.
Energy Hygiene: Brush Your Chakras!
Skipping energy maintenance is like skipping flossing—it gets messy.
Daily care is necessary for your energy centers as well.
Techniques like acupuncture and Reiki can also be utilized to target the chakras and Hara energy points to keep our system balanced.
As a Certified Reiki Master, I use Reiki on myself and my family to help keep our energy centers clear.
I also use Qi-gong and have more recently taken up yoga to keep the energy flowing in these centers.
You should experiment with a few different methods and then decide what feels right to you.
Energy hygiene is important and one you shouldn’t skip.
Energy flows through us constantly via thoughts, emotions, bodily processes, and interactions with others.
Try the short exercise below:
Quick Exercise: Strengthen Your Hara
1. Set Up: Sit comfortably in a quiet space and set a timer for 30 minutes.
2. Position: Close your eyes and place hands on your lower belly (below the navel).
3. Focus: Bring awareness to this area. Remember, “where attention goes, energy flows.”
4. Breathe Naturally: Inhale and exhale without controlling your breath.
5. Handle Distractions: If thoughts arise, notice them, and bring your focus back to your belly.
6. Finish: When the timer goes off, open your eyes. Feel grounded, centered, and ready to take on the day.
There are plenty of ways to clear your chakras and strengthen your Hara—crystals included, if that’s your vibe.
Bottom line: energy is always flowing through you. Build a regular routine to keep those pathways clear—not just for yourself, but for everyone you touch with your energy.
May the ‘flow’ be with you!
